The Game
This version of Global Domination should not be confused with the board game conversion Risk, which often uses Global Domination as its subtitle. This installment of Global Domination was developed by Impressions Games and was released to the public in the early nineties by Psygnosis Limited. It is a simulation and strategy hybrid, similar to Risk. It plays out from the map view in a top down perspective, and is completely managerial instead of featuring real-time combat.

The game takes place in the not so distant future when the world has been divided into five super powers. The game plays very much like Risk, only with several added features that will either confuse the avid Risk fan, or make it more interesting. Of course, the five nations are at war with each other, vying for global domination, hence the name of the game. Each of the larger nations is using the ruse of peace to justify its battles, claiming that under one rule, there will be no more war. To take over the world, they will use tactics such as spying on one another, sabotaging the enemy, temporary alliances, as well as strategic military maneuvering to vanquish their foes. There will be historically great military leaders at for the nations to battle, such as France’s Napoleon Bonaparte, Rome’s Julius Caesar, and others. The user will have to quell random revolutions within his own budding empire and control and position many different modern armies.

If I had to summarize I would it combines the basics of the micromanagement of Civilization, but adds a lot more overall depth than Risk. It sits right in the middle of the road in just about all aspects, and is a nice offering for fans of the genre.
