The Game
With each subsequent installment in the series, Chessmaster brought forward a better, more subtle AI, that was capable of more diverse strategies and even later on, capable to simulate an entire set of personality traits for its virtual players.
This iteration of the Chessmaster series offers a strong chess opponent at 12 skill levels, catering for novices to grandmasters. Its many features include an opening library built around 75,000 moves. 2100 is really a major update to Chessmaster 2000, adding 640x200 graphics for nicer displays, many tutorial and "expert" options, and a plethora of other features added from user feedback.
To help novices there is a teach mode showing all legal moves, a hint move offering what the computer feels is a strong move, and the chance for the Chessmaster to analyse all previous moves in a game. Famous real-life game positions and pre-set challenges offer individual challenges.
Back in '89 Chessmaster 2100 was the most graphically appealing and, at the higher skill levels, a beast of a challenge. Chessmaster 2100 ended the decade with a bang.
